Flag: Bhutan 🇧🇹 Emoji: Meaning & Usage
The flag of Bhutan, a small Buddhist kingdom in the Eastern Himalayas. The flag features a unique diagonal split design with yellow (representing the secular monarchy) on the upper hoist side and orange (representing Drukpa Buddhism) on the lower fly side. In the center is a white Druk, the Thunder Dragon of Bhutanese mythology, holding four jewels representing the country's wealth.
The country's name 'Druk Yul' (Land of the Thunder Dragon) references the loud thunder of the high Himalayas, believed by ancient Bhutanese to be dragon voices. Bhutan is world-famous for measuring development through Gross National Happiness (GNH) instead of just GDP. The country is known for spectacular cliffside monasteries like the iconic Tiger's Nest (Paro Taktsang) at 3,120 meters, traditional Gho and Kira clothing, archery as the national sport, and being the world's only carbon-negative country.
