The flag of Afghanistan, a landlocked country in Central Asia at the historic crossroads of civilizations along the Silk Road. The flag traditionally features three vertical stripes of black, red, and green, with a white national emblem in the center. The black represents past dark periods, the red represents the blood shed for independence, and the green symbolizes Islam and hope.

The white emblem features a mosque with a mihrab, wheat sheaves, and the Arabic Shahada. After the Taliban takeover in 2021, a white flag with black Arabic text has been used by the de facto government.
