The flag of Bahrain, an island country in the Persian Gulf. The flag features a red field with a white zigzag pattern on the hoist side that creates five white triangles. These five points represent the Five Pillars of Islam: the declaration of faith (Shahada), prayer (Salah), almsgiving (Zakat), fasting during Ramadan (Sawm), and pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj). Red is a traditional color of Islam common in the Persian Gulf region. The current design with five points was adopted on February 14, 2002, when Bahrain became a kingdom.

Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands connected to Saudi Arabia by the 25-kilometer King Fahd Causeway. Despite its small size, Bahrain has ancient history dating back over 4,000 years to the Dilmun civilization. The country was historically famous for its natural pearl industry. In 1932, Bahrain became the first country in the Persian Gulf to discover oil. Notable attractions include the UNESCO Bahrain Fort, the Tree of Life, the bustling Manama Souq, and the annual Bahrain Grand Prix Formula 1 race.
