The flag of Azerbaijan, a country in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, located on the western shore of the Caspian Sea. The flag features three horizontal stripes of equal size: light blue on top, red in the middle, and green at the bottom, with a white crescent moon and an eight-pointed star centered in the red stripe. The azure blue represents the Turkic heritage of the Azerbaijani people, the red symbolizes progress and modernization, and the green represents Islam. The crescent moon is a traditional Islamic symbol, and the eight-pointed star is said to represent the eight branches of the Turkic peoples.

The flag was first adopted by the short-lived Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918-1920), the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world, and restored on February 5, 1991. Azerbaijan is famously nicknamed 'The Land of Fire' for its ancient Zoroastrian heritage and natural gas seeps that create eternal flames. The capital Baku contrasts ultra-modern Flame Towers with the medieval Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and hosts the annual Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
