The flag of Uzbekistan — the Central Asian nation containing the Silk Road's most magnificent cities: Samarkand (Timur's capital), Bukhara (with its extraordinary medieval Islamic architecture), and Khiva (a largely preserved ancient city). The Registan in Samarkand is one of the most spectacular architectural ensembles in the Islamic world.
