The flag of Ethiopia — the only African country to successfully resist European colonization (defeating Italy at the Battle of Adwa in 1896), representing African independence and pride. Ethiopia is widely considered the birthplace of coffee. The country has one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations, with the Aksumite Empire's obelisks and rock-hewn churches of Lalibela. Addis Ababa hosts the African Union headquarters.
