Flag: Bouvet Island 🇧🇻 Emoji: Meaning & Usage

The flag of Bouvet Island, a remote uninhabited subantarctic volcanic island in the South Atlantic Ocean and a dependent territory of Norway. The flag is the same as Norway's national flag, featuring a red field with an indigo cross outlined in white. Bouvet Island is officially the most remote island in the world, with the nearest land being Queen Maud Land in Antarctica about 1,750 km away, and the nearest inhabited land over 2,200 km distant.

Discovered in 1739 by French naval officer Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier, the island was claimed by Norway in 1927 and designated a nature reserve in 1971. About 93% of the island is covered by glaciers, and steep ice-covered cliffs make landing extremely difficult. The island has no permanent residents and only an automated weather station, serving as an important breeding ground for seals, penguins, and seabirds.
