The flag of Argentina, a South American country and one of the world's most football-loving nations. The flag features three equal horizontal bands: light blue (called 'celeste') on top and bottom, and white in the middle, with the 'Sol de Mayo' (May Sun) emblazoned in gold in the center. The Sun of May is a stylized depiction of the ancient Incan sun deity Inti, featuring a human face surrounded by 32 rays alternating between 16 straight rays and 16 wavy rays. The light blue and white colors are believed to represent the Argentine sky and clouds, derived from the cockades worn by independence supporters during the May Revolution of 1810.

The flag was created by General Manuel Belgrano in February 1812 during the wars of independence and officially adopted in 1816. Argentina is the eighth-largest country in the world by area. The country is internationally celebrated for its passionate football culture—the national team has won three FIFA World Cups (1978, 1986, and 2022), and produced legendary players including Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona. Tango, the iconic passionate partner dance, was born in Buenos Aires.
